Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned the maternal uncle of a NEET aspirant who died under suspicious circumstances in Bihar’s Jehanabad district, along with a doctor linked to her treatment, as criticism mounts over the pace and direction of the inquiry.
Officials summoned both men to the agency’s Patna office on Saturday, where they were interrogated together and asked to respond to contested aspects of the case. Sources said their statements were recorded during a prolonged session led by DSP Vibha Kumari, the recently appointed investigating officer.
The agency has not disclosed details of the questioning.
Tensions were evident after the session, with the student’s maternal uncle emerging visibly distressed and publicly criticising the investigation. He said he had lost faith in both the state police and the CBI, questioning why he was made to sit face-to-face with a doctor who, he alleged, had earlier blamed the family for the student’s death.
He also accused investigators of failing to take adequate action in the early stages of the case, claiming that key legal provisions were not invoked and alleging that the inquiry was being mishandled. “This is only delaying the investigation and taking it in the wrong direction,” he said.
The case has already seen resistance on the ground. Earlier this week, a CBI team visiting the victim’s home district faced protests from relatives and locals while attempting to gather statements.
The death of the NEET aspirant has triggered public concern, with questions being raised about the circumstances leading to her death and the handling of the investigation by authorities.
