Patna: Bihar is witnessing a mixed weather pattern marked by rising temperatures and scattered rainfall, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Patna Meteorological Centre.
While light to moderate rainfall was recorded in districts including Madhubani, Supaul, Madhepura, Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Katihar over the past 24 hours, most other parts of the state remained dry.
Temperatures Surge Across State
Data released by the weather department shows a noticeable rise in maximum temperatures by 1–3°C in several districts, with no significant change in minimum temperatures.
According to the official temperature chart (see image), Dehri in Rohtas recorded the highest temperature at 43°C, followed closely by Kaimur (42.9°C), Gaya (42.8°C) and Buxar (42.7°C). Patna recorded a maximum of 39.3°C.
The heat monitoring bulletin issued on April 19 also confirms that multiple districts—including Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Nalanda and Arwal—have already crossed the 40°C mark .
Rainfall Brings Localised Relief
Rainfall data shows that Raghopur received the highest precipitation at 25.2 mm, followed by Barsoi (24.6 mm) and Kishanpur (22.2 mm). Several other locations across north and east Bihar recorded rainfall between 10 mm and 20 mm.
However, officials said this rainfall has been uneven and has not significantly altered the overall heat conditions in the state.
No Heatwave Yet, But Conditions Worsening
Despite the high temperatures, the department has not issued a heatwave warning for April 19 or April 20. However, officials cautioned that conditions remain conducive for heatwave development in the coming days if temperatures continue to rise .
Forecast: Hotter Days Ahead In South Bihar
The forecast indicates:
- No major change in maximum temperatures across most parts of the state over the next 3–4 days
- Above-normal temperatures likely in districts such as Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya
- Minimum temperatures expected to remain stable over the next 2–3 days
Advisory For Public
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to take precautions against rising heat, particularly during afternoon hours. People have been urged to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure and take necessary safety measures, especially in districts already recording extreme temperatures.
Officials said Bihar is entering a critical phase of early summer, with a combination of heat and sporadic rainfall likely to define weather conditions in the coming days.
