Patna: The Bihar cabinet, chaired by chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, on Wednesday approved 64 agenda items in its second meeting since the formation of the new government, signalling a broad push across governance, infrastructure and public services.
Deputy chief ministers Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Vijendra Yadav were also present at the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Patna Zoo Renamed
Among the key decisions, the cabinet approved renaming the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park as “Patna Zoo”.
Police Recruitment And Administrative Measures
The government cleared recruitment for 20,937 posts in the Bihar Police, with 50% to be filled through promotions and the rest via competitive examinations.
It also approved the creation of 23 posts in the finance department to operationalise a proposed cyber treasury.
Financial And Infrastructure Push
The cabinet approved a temporary increase in the state’s contingency fund from Rs 350 crore to Rs 13,900 crore.
To strengthen electricity infrastructure, new inter-state transmission lines will be developed, with REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited appointed as the nodal agency for the tender process.
Under the chief minister electricity consumer assistance scheme, Rs 23,165 crore has been sanctioned for 2026–27 to continue subsidies for consumers.
Law Enforcement And Facilities
A new building costing around Rs 51 crore will be constructed on Mangals Road in Patna to house the cyber crime unit and special branch.
Officers from the vigilance investigation department will also be absorbed into the state police and home department.
Agriculture And Industry Measures
The cabinet approved amendments to the Bihar Sugar Undertakings (Acquisition) Act, 1985, aimed at promoting sugarcane-based industries.
It also reduced the development council commission on sugarcane procurement from 1.80% to 0.20% to ease financial pressure on sugar mills.
Water And Infrastructure Projects
An allocation of Rs 424 crore was approved for the construction of the Mandai Weir and related canal systems.
Additionally, Rs 3,601 crore has been sanctioned for the maintenance and IoT-based monitoring of nearly 29,933 rural water supply schemes.
Road Connectivity
The cabinet also cleared a proposal for the 90-km Buxar–Arrah–Maner Ganga Path project under the public-private partnership mode, including approval for DPR preparation and consultancy services.
Officials said the decisions are aimed at accelerating development across sectors while strengthening governance and public service delivery in the state.
