Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting with district magistrates and the superintendents of police at the state convention hall, issuing stern directions on policing and maintenance of law and order.
The meeting came against the backdrop of two major murders and multiple police encounters reported within the last 24 hours, prompting heightened concern over public safety in the state.
Officials said the chief minister reviewed crime control measures, policing standards and administrative coordination, while directing officers to ensure swift action against criminals and maintain peace across districts.
JDU Defends Government’s Crime Response
Sanjay Jha, national working president of the Janata Dal (United), defended the government’s stance and said strict action was being taken against offenders.
He said those disturbing peace had no place in Bihar and reiterated that the rule of law, not the rule of bullets, would prevail in the state. He added that anyone attempting unlawful activity would face firm administrative action.
Bhagalpur Shooting and Police Encounter
In Bhagalpur, armed assailants entered the municipal council office and shot the executive officer and chairperson. In a subsequent police operation, Ramdhani Yadav, husband of the deputy chairperson and a suspect in the case, was killed in an encounter, according to officials.
Siwan Murder Case Leads to Gunfight
In Siwan, police said accused Chhotu Kumar Yadav was injured in both legs during an encounter early Thursday after being linked to the killing of Harsh Kumar, nephew of former MLC and BJP leader Manoj Kumar Singh.
Police said Harsh Kumar and his brother-in-law Chandan Singh were fired upon on Wednesday evening after an argument allegedly broke out over parking a car near Lakshmipur Aandar Dhala overbridge under Nagar police station limits. Harsh Kumar died, while Chandan Singh was seriously injured and referred to Patna for treatment.
Political Signal Amid Rising Pressure
During the day, the chief minister also briefly reached the Legislative Council premises for the nomination of BJP MLC candidate Surya Kumar Sharma.
The developments are likely to intensify debate around crime and governance in Bihar, even as the administration seeks to project a rapid-response model through police action and top-level reviews.
