Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts in Bihar, warning that weather conditions may remain unstable throughout Sunday, with thunderstorms, light rain and winds of 40 to 50km/h expected in several areas.
Cloud cover is also likely to persist during the day, bringing temporary relief from rising summer temperatures.
The districts under alert are East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka and Jamui.

Cooler spell likely for next few days
According to the IMD forecast, pleasant weather conditions may continue across Bihar for the next two to three days. Temperatures are expected to feel warmer around midday, but heatwave conditions are not anticipated in the immediate term.
Forecasters said temperatures could rise again by three to four degrees Celsius after this brief cooler spell, signalling a possible return of hotter weather later in the week.
Patna may see clouds and gusty winds
In state capital Patna, conditions are expected to remain relatively comfortable, with temperatures hovering around 32°C.
Cloud movement similar to Saturday’s conditions is likely to continue, with the possibility of light rain and strong winds. Cooler breezes are expected to offer some respite to residents.
Why the weather has changed
Meteorologists said the current shift in Bihar’s weather is being driven by a western disturbance combined with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal.
The interaction of these systems has created conditions more typical of the monsoon season despite it being early May. However, officials warned that hotter weather could return within two to three days.
