Patna: A spell of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds has brought relief from intense heat in parts of Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting that the unsettled weather will continue over the coming days.
While several districts have experienced rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and storms, other parts of the state continue to face humid conditions due to elevated night-time temperatures.
According to the latest IMD bulletin issued on June 7, the contrasting weather pattern is expected to persist across Bihar.
Orange Alert For 12 Districts
The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for thunderstorms and rain on June 8 in Saran, Buxar, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Gaya, Nalanda, Vaishali, Patna, Sheikhpura, Jamui and Lakhisarai districts.
Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert as thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely during the period.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall in Bhagalpur and Banka districts.
According to meteorologists, several districts could receive additional spells of heavy rain on June 9 and June 10 as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded In Nawada
Data released by the weather department showed that parts of Bihar received significant rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Nawada recorded 7 cm of rainfall, which falls within the category of heavy rainfall according to IMD classifications.
Rainfall in several districts helped moderate daytime temperatures and provided temporary relief from the oppressive heat that has affected the state in recent weeks.
Strong Winds Sweep Across State
The changing weather was accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts.
Arwal recorded wind speeds of up to 69 kmph during thunderstorms over the past 24 hours.
Reports from other parts of Bihar indicated gusty winds ranging between 60 kmph and 90 kmph, accompanied by lightning activity and localized storms.
Meteorologists said the conditions were being driven by increased moisture incursion and atmospheric instability associated with ongoing pre-monsoon weather systems.
Heat Persists Despite Rain
Despite the rainfall in some districts, temperatures remain above normal in several parts of Bihar.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures ranging between 38°C and 42°C were recorded across various districts on June 6.
Weather experts said that while rain has brought relief in some regions, high humidity and elevated night-time temperatures continue to create uncomfortable conditions elsewhere.
The department has advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms, stay away from trees and electric poles during lightning activity, and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
Meteorologists expect weather conditions to remain dynamic over the next few days as Bihar moves deeper into the pre-monsoon season ahead of the anticipated arrival of the southwest monsoon later this month.
