Patna: The arrival of the monsoon has triggered a significant change in weather conditions across Bihar, with temperatures dropping sharply and widespread rainfall bringing relief from prolonged heat and humidity.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the state’s capital recorded a maximum temperature of 29.6°C on Thursday, marking a decline of 9°C within 24 hours. Officials said this was the lowest maximum temperature recorded in Patna during June in the past 15 years. The city also received 0.4 mm of rainfall.

Patna Sees Record June Temperature Drop

The sharp decline in temperature followed the arrival of active monsoon conditions across the state. Weather officials attributed the drop to persistent cloud cover and rainfall activity over large parts of Bihar.

While Patna witnessed the most notable fall, several other districts also recorded significant declines in daytime temperatures. Buxar reported an 8°C drop, while Kaimur, Aurangabad and Supaul saw temperatures fall by 7°C. Arwal, Gaya and Muzaffarpur each recorded declines of around 6°C.

Rainfall Activity Intensifies Across Bihar

Kishanganj district received the highest rainfall in the state. Tayabpur recorded 148 mm of rain, making it the wettest location during the reporting period.

Other areas that received substantial rainfall included Saraigarh in Supaul with 106 mm, Baltara in Khagaria with 70.4 mm, and Hasanpur in Samastipur with 67.6 mm.

The widespread rainfall has improved weather conditions across much of Bihar and provided relief from humid conditions that had persisted in recent weeks.

Saran Records Highest Temperature in State

Despite the cooler conditions, Saran remained the hottest district in Bihar, recording a maximum temperature of 36.6°C. However, officials noted that temperatures there also declined compared to previous days.

Pleasant weather conditions were reported from several districts, including Bhagalpur, Purnia and Motihari, as cloud cover and intermittent rainfall continued.

Yellow Alert Issued for Seven Districts

The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts, warning of heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds.

The alert covers Araria, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Sheohar, Sitamarhi and Supaul.

Meteorologists have forecast wind speeds of 40–50 kmph in affected areas along with the possibility of lightning strikes and intense rain spells.

Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast to Continue

Cloudy conditions are expected to persist across most districts, including Patna, over the next several days.

The Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in districts including Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Saharsa, Samastipur and Vaishali. Active weather conditions are also likely in southeastern parts of the state.

Officials said rain, thunderstorms and lightning activity are expected to continue across Bihar for the next four to five days. While no major change in temperatures is anticipated during this period, the active monsoon phase is expected to provide continued relief from heat and support agricultural activities.

Temperatures in Major Cities

  • Patna: 29.6°C / 22.7°C
  • Gaya: 34.4°C / 25.8°C
  • Bhagalpur: 29.5°C / 25.7°C
  • Muzaffarpur: 28.0°C / 24.0°C

The first widespread monsoon rainfall of the season has effectively ended heatwave-like conditions in much of Bihar, with cooler temperatures and wet weather now prevailing across the state.
