Patna: Road accident victims in Bihar can avail cashless treatment worth up to Rs 1.5 lakh under the PM-RAHAT Scheme, which is being implemented to provide immediate medical assistance and reduce the financial burden on injured persons and their families.
Under the scheme, the government bears the entire cost of treatment for the first seven days following a road accident. The facility is available at designated hospitals registered under the Ayushman Bharat programme.
State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan said that victims become eligible for the scheme if they are admitted to a designated hospital within 24 hours of the accident. Hospitals are required to upload patient details on the online Transaction Management System (TMS), after which police verification and other approval procedures are completed before benefits are extended.
According to official data, action has been initiated in 87 cases under the scheme so far. Out of these, 60 road accident victims have successfully received free treatment.
Focus on Saving Lives During Golden Hour
Officials said the primary objective of the scheme is to save lives by ensuring that critically injured persons receive timely medical attention during the Golden Hour — the crucial period immediately after an accident when prompt treatment can significantly improve survival chances.
The Transport Department has appealed to the public to immediately shift accident victims to the nearest designated hospital to ensure they receive urgent medical care without concerns over treatment expenses.
Authorities said the initiative is aimed at strengthening emergency response mechanisms and ensuring quality healthcare support for road accident victims across the state.
