Bhagalpur/Patna:The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is preparing to restart its pink bus service on the Vikramshila Bailey bridge to address transport difficulties faced by women commuters and students travelling between Bhagalpur and Naugachia.
The move comes after the suspension of larger buses on the temporary Bailey bridge, which was installed following restrictions on the main Vikramshila Setu.
Officials said a formal proposal will be sent to the district administration for approval. If cleared, services could resume from Monday.
Service aimed at women commuters
The pink bus service, operated specifically for women passengers, had earlier served as a regular mode of transport on the route.
Its suspension, along with the halt in larger bus operations, has increased reliance on private vehicles and alternative transport, resulting in higher travel costs and longer commuting times.
Transport officials said the department had received multiple requests from passengers to restore the service.
Weight within bridge capacity
Manager Pawan Shandilya said the pink bus is suitable for operation on the Bailey bridge due to its lighter load.
According to him, the bus weighs around 3.5 tonnes when empty and approximately 4 tonnes with passengers, which falls within the bridge’s permissible load capacity.
This assessment has formed the basis of the request for operational clearance.
Proposed route and expected relief
If approved, the buses will operate up to Rangra Chowk and Narayanpur, providing connectivity for daily commuters in the region.
Officials said the service is expected to benefit a significant number of working women, students and other female passengers who depend on public transport for regular travel.
The district administration is yet to take a final decision on the proposal.
