Patna: The Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU) has introduced a trolley-mounted distribution transformer system aimed at reducing power outage durations caused by transformer failures in the city.
According to officials, electricity supply can now be restored within one to two hours if a distribution transformer (DTR) burns out or develops a fault, significantly reducing the time required for emergency response and restoration.
New Mobile Transformer Introduced
PESU has been provided with a 315 kVA trolley-mounted distribution transformer equipped with a high-voltage Load Break Switch (LBS) panel, HRC fuses and a 630-ampere moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB).
The mobile unit can be transported quickly to affected locations and installed on-site, allowing power supply to resume while permanent repairs or replacement work is undertaken.
Reducing Outage Duration
Officials from the electricity department said transformer failures previously resulted in extended power cuts because arranging and installing a replacement transformer often took several hours.
With the new trolley-mounted DTR, emergency deployment can be completed much faster, helping restore electricity supply within a shorter timeframe and reducing inconvenience to consumers.
First Deployment in New Capital Division
In the first phase, the trolley-mounted transformer has been assigned to the New Capital Power Supply Division.
The power utility has also announced plans to deploy similar units across all 12 remaining power supply divisions under PESU, expanding the emergency response system across Patna’s urban electricity network.
Focus on Reliable Power Supply
According to the utility, the initiative is designed to strengthen the city’s power distribution infrastructure and improve service reliability.
Officials said faster restoration during transformer-related outages will help maintain a more consistent electricity supply and enhance consumer services across the state capital.
The trolley-mounted DTR system is expected to play a key role in improving emergency response capabilities and supporting uninterrupted power supply in Patna’s growing urban areas.
