Patna: Bihar’s youth seeking employment abroad are set to get a dedicated support system, with a Skill India International Centre planned in Patna with support from the Government of India.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has approved the initiative, which is intended to create a structured pathway for young people from Bihar seeking employment overseas.
According to the Department of Youth, Employment and Skill Development, the centre will create a “global mobility pathway” for the state’s workforce and provide support through the Bihar State Overseas Placement Bureau.
Jobs In Gulf, Europe And East Asia
The centre will facilitate overseas employment opportunities in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Europe, East Asia and other major international destinations.
A key focus will be ensuring that recruitment is conducted through ethical and transparent channels, reducing the dependence of prospective migrant workers on unauthorised agents.
The centre will support both blue-collar and white-collar employment. Blue-collar opportunities will include jobs requiring technical and physical skills, while white-collar placements will cover administrative, professional and other knowledge-based roles.
Training Before Migration
The proposed centre will also provide training to young people preparing to migrate for work.
Prospective workers will receive information about the laws and regulations of their destination countries, migrant worker rights, workplace codes of conduct and relevant central and state government schemes.
Training will also include foreign-language skills and specialised skills aligned with international employment requirements.
The centre is expected to create a digital database of workers migrating from Bihar and facilitate services including medical clearances, insurance and other protective measures.
The aim is to provide migrants with support not only in finding jobs but also in preparing for and navigating employment in another country.
Residential School Planned For Workers’ Children
Separately, the Department of Labour Resources and Migrant Workers’ Welfare is planning a residential school in Patna for the children of registered workers.
A proposal has been prepared and will be submitted to the state cabinet for approval.
The proposed school is intended to provide quality education to children of the more than 4.5 million workers registered with the Bihar Workers’ Welfare Board.
The government plans to entrust its operation to a reputed educational institution or group, with registered workers’ children receiving education free of cost.
Residential Facilities For 500 Children In Each District
The plan also envisages residential schooling facilities for at least 500 children in each district.
Similar welfare initiatives for registered workers are already being implemented in several states, according to the department.
Together, the proposed international skills centre and residential education initiative are aimed at addressing two aspects of migrant workers’ lives — creating safer and more structured pathways to overseas employment for Bihar’s youth while expanding educational opportunities for the children of registered workers.
