Patna: A doctor living in Rajeev Nagar was allegedly blackmailed and extorted of nearly Rs 2 crore by a woman who threatened to implicate him in a false rape case, according to a complaint filed with the Rajeev Nagar police.

A complaint was registered on August 8 based on the statement of the doctor’s wife, Kavita Devi. She alleged that a woman from Muzaffarpur had been blackmailing her husband and taking money from him for nearly one-and-a-half to two years.

The woman allegedly threatened to have the doctor jailed in a rape case and also threatened to harm his family if he did not pay the demanded money.

Doctor allegedly disclosed blackmailing on July 7

According to Kavita’s complaint, her husband told her about the alleged blackmailing after waking up crying on the night of July 7, 2026.

He allegedly told her that Chandni, a resident of Mithanpura in Muzaffarpur, had been demanding money from him and had already received crores of rupees. He also allegedly said she was demanding another Rs 10 lakh and had threatened him if he failed to pay.

The complaint states that the doctor had initially come in contact with Chandni and her husband, Nikhil, in 2024. Their communication later continued over WhatsApp.

According to the complaint, Chandni initially sought Rs 20,000 for her mother’s medical treatment. The doctor allegedly provided the money and subsequently continued giving her financial assistance on different pretexts.

Doctor allegedly paid Rs 1.32 crore by December 2025

The complaint alleges that after receiving around Rs 4-5 lakh, the doctor refused to provide further money. Chandni then allegedly told him that she was planning to start a coaching centre in Mithanpura and sought Rs 10 lakh, promising that she would gradually repay his debts from the income generated by the business.

The doctor allegedly gave her another Rs 10 lakh over the following five to six months.

According to the complaint, when he subsequently refused further payments, Chandni and her husband allegedly called him outside their office in Mushahari, Muzaffarpur, in November 2025.

Chandni allegedly threatened to implicate him in a rape case, claiming that she had a “selfie photo” that could be used against him. She allegedly warned that he could be jailed and lose both his job and reputation. The complaint also alleges that the doctor was threatened with death.

The woman allegedly later asked the doctor to sign a legal declaration stating that he would not seek repayment of the money he had already given her and that she would not demand further money.

The complaint states that the doctor went to the Muzaffarpur court premises on December 18, 2025, purchased a Rs 1,000 non-judicial stamp paper and prepared the declaration as allegedly instructed by Chandni.

The declaration reportedly mentioned payments totalling Rs 1,32,64,960 made to her until that point. Despite this, the complaint alleges, further demands for money continued.

Additional Rs 58 lakh allegedly paid under pressure

The complaint further alleges that Chandni repeatedly threatened to commit suicide and blame the doctor.

According to his wife, the doctor came under pressure and borrowed money through personal bank loans, his provident fund, and from friends and relatives. He allegedly made various transactions totalling around Rs 58 lakh to Chandni.

On July 5, 2026, at around 11 pm, Chandni allegedly sent the doctor a WhatsApp message demanding another Rs 10 lakh, claiming it would be the final payment.

The complaint states that the family, after observing the doctor’s mental distress, agreed to arrange the money. Kavita allegedly gave her husband a Rs 10 lakh Punjab National Bank cheque to deposit into Chandni’s account. However, the alleged threats and demands for money continued.

Wife alleges organised blackmailing network

Frustrated by the repeated demands, the doctor’s wife approached Rajeev Nagar police and filed a complaint against Chandni, her husband Nikhil and another alleged associate.

She alleged that the accused were operating an organised group that targeted people and blackmailed them by threatening to implicate them in criminal cases.

Police have registered the complaint and are investigating the allegations. The accusations against the named individuals are yet to be independently established.
