Patna: The Department of Pediatrics at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna organised a National Training Programme on Practical Paediatric Oncology on May 29 as a pre-conference workshop under Bihar PEDICON 2026.
The academic programme brought together 25 delegates, including postgraduate trainees, paediatric practitioners and nursing officers from institutions across Bihar involved in the care and management of children with cancer.
Focus on Strengthening Paediatric Oncology Services
The workshop was inaugurated by Raju Agarwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, who attended as the chief guest.
Addressing participants, Agarwal highlighted the need to strengthen paediatric oncology services through early diagnosis, timely referrals, multidisciplinary care and continuous capacity building of healthcare professionals.
The inaugural session was also attended by Ajeet Kumar, In-Charge Dean (Academics); Prashant Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent; and Ruchi Sinha, Dean Student’s Welfare. The speakers encouraged participants to contribute to improved paediatric cancer care through collaborative learning and evidence-based practices.

Experts Lead Scientific Sessions
The scientific programme featured lectures and interactive discussions led by specialists in paediatric oncology and related fields.
Faculty members included Chandra Mohan Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS Patna; Amit Kumar and Santosh Kumar from Medanta Hospital; Ashutosh from Mahavir Cancer Sansthan; Arundhati from Patna Medical College and Hospital; and Neha Singh.
The experts shared practical insights into the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of childhood cancers.
Clinical Training and Hands-On Learning
The workshop covered key clinical topics, including the epidemiology of childhood cancers, principles of cancer management, evaluation of lymphadenopathy and abdominal masses, approaches to pancytopenia, management of oncological emergencies and identification of warning signs associated with childhood malignancies.
A panel discussion examined the role of primary care paediatricians in facilitating early diagnosis, prompt referrals and coordinated management of children with cancer.
A major highlight of the programme was its hands-on training component, which provided participants with practical experience through dedicated skill stations designed to strengthen clinical competencies.
