Bhagalpur: Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has achieved a major milestone by securing the second position in the rankings of startup centres released by the Department of Industry, Government of Bihar, for July. Out of 46 centres across the state, BAU’s Startup Cell stood out for its consistent work in innovation, entrepreneurship and practical training for young minds.
The recognition is seen as an important moment for the university, which has been working to link agricultural research with business opportunities. The rankings placed Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, in third place and Government Engineering College, Aurangabad, in fourth. Officials said the assessment was based on the activities, impact and performance of each centre.
Vice chancellor of BAU, Dr D.R. Singh, welcomed the news, calling it a sign of the university’s long-term commitment to promote agricultural entrepreneurship. He said the Startup Cell was turning the innovative ideas of students and young entrepreneurs into successful ventures by offering training, guidance and technical support. “Our aim is to make Bihar a strong agri-business hub and prepare farmers and youth to compete on a global level,” Singh said.
The Startup Cell has been praised for its hands-on approach. Dr Anil Kumar Singh, research director and nodal officer of the cell, said the achievement reflected the hard work of the entire team. “We are not only encouraging innovation but also helping young people to turn their ideas into business models. Our focus is on agri-tech, value addition and other areas that can strengthen Bihar’s rural economy,” he said.
Faculty in-charge Dr Neetu Kumari and coordinator Megha Kumari have also been credited for playing a key role in this success. They have organised regular training sessions, problem-solving workshops and one-to-one guidance for startup founders. Their support has helped many young entrepreneurs to find direction and confidence in their projects.
This recognition is more than just a ranking. It marks the growth of BAU as a centre that combines agricultural research with entrepreneurship. By encouraging agri-business ideas, the Startup Cell is creating new opportunities for farmers, researchers and youth. Experts believe this achievement will inspire more students to look at agriculture not just as a traditional practice but also as a modern industry with endless possibilities.
