Patna: The Bihar government is preparing for a major recruitment drive in 2026 that is expected to create more than 1.5 lakh government jobs and employment opportunities across the state. The announcement was made by Additional Chief Secretary B. Rajendra of the General Administration Department during a press conference. He said that the demand for 1,50,561 posts has already been sent to different commissions and recruitment boards, and the process to fill these vacancies is now under way. This step is being seen as a big relief for thousands of young people who have been waiting for stable jobs.
The government also shared data to show how employment has grown in recent years. From April 1, 2020, to February 6, 2026, nearly 9.84 lakh people have been given jobs in the government system. This includes 7.95 lakh regular employees, 1.17 lakh contractual staff, and over 70,000 people hired through outside agencies. Officials said this shows the state’s continued effort to reduce unemployment and improve public services by filling long-pending vacancies.
This recruitment plan is part of Bihar’s larger goal to provide one crore jobs and employment opportunities within five years. For this, the government has prepared a detailed master plan. Recently, the roster for the recruitment of 44,000 teachers was handed over to the concerned department. The ruling party also shared that these teachers will be selected through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). Once completed, this will help strengthen the education system, especially in government schools facing a shortage of teachers.
Apart from jobs, the state is also focusing on improving the quality of governance. The General Administration Department has received an International Standard Quality Certificate for three years, becoming the first department in Bihar to get this honour. This certificate recognises better work systems, faster services, and a stronger grievance redressal process. The government has also approved the Chief Minister Fellowship Scheme, under which 121 subject experts will work with different departments. An agreement has been signed with IIM Bodh Gaya to help train and guide these fellows. Together, these steps show that Bihar is trying not only to create jobs but also to build a more efficient and modern administration.
