Patna: The Bihar government has stepped up preparations to deliver what it describes as one of its most ambitious employment drives yet, setting a target of creating one crore (10 million) jobs and livelihood opportunities across the state between 2025 and 2030.
The move forms part of a broader blueprint aimed at tackling youth unemployment and strengthening the state’s workforce through coordinated planning across departments. Officials said the Youth Employment and Skill Development Department has asked all government wings to submit detailed projections of potential job creation in the coming years, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive state-level action plan.
As an immediate step, the Building Construction Department has instructed all superintending engineers to provide employment-related data within three days. The department has sought information on steps already taken and opportunities likely to emerge through ongoing and proposed projects in their respective jurisdictions.
The request follows a review meeting held on 15 January 2026, where nodal officers were directed to assess and report the number of jobs expected to be generated between 2025–26 and 2029–30. The projections must cover regular government posts, contractual appointments, outsourcing arrangements and honorarium-based positions, along with yearly estimates of vacancies and recruitments.
Officials have been asked to send consolidated reports to the department’s headquarters in Patna through digital channels, including email and WhatsApp groups, to speed up the compilation process. The data will be used to design an integrated strategy to ensure that employment targets are met within the stipulated timeframe.
Sources within the administration said infrastructure and construction projects are expected to account for a significant share of new opportunities. Engineers, technicians, contractual staff and labourers are likely to benefit most, while the government hopes the push will also stimulate local economies and create sustainable livelihoods for young people across the state.
