Patna: Travelling to Bihar’s most famous tourist sites is set to become significantly easier, as the state government prepares to launch 40 electric buses connecting Patna with destinations including Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Kaimur, Sitamarhi, and Vaishali. The move, announced ahead of the new year, forms part of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s efforts to boost tourism in the state.
Officials say the plan is nearly finalised, with the tourism and transport departments working together to determine routes. The service is expected to commence from February 2026.
A boost for tourism
Bihar has seen a steady increase in tourist arrivals in recent years, attracting both domestic and international visitors. Infrastructure improvements, including roads and bridges, have enhanced accessibility to key sites. Authorities hope that modern and comfortable transportation options will further accelerate tourism growth, potentially mirroring the success of states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Uttar Pradesh.
The e-buses will offer a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable journey, including cushioned seating, television and music systems, and mobile charging facilities.
Voices from the travellers
Travel enthusiasts and bloggers have welcomed the initiative. Suman Kumar, a frequent visitor to Bihar, highlighted lesser-known attractions such as Jethian Hill in Rajgir and Lalpania Lake in Kaimur. “With the launch of the e-bus service, tourists from across India and abroad will finally have easy access to these hidden gems,” he said. Travel blogger Brijesh Kewat added that the service would benefit both casual tourists and content creators, making travel to Bihar’s landmarks simpler and more affordable.
