Patna: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has reported a strong response to its AC interstate bus services, with more than 43,000 passengers travelling within just 18 days since the service began on February 23. According to official data released by the corporation, the buses have recorded an average seat occupancy of 93%, reflecting their growing popularity among travellers.
The special services were introduced by the state government to help people returning home during the festive season. For many migrant workers and students living outside Bihar, the buses have become a convenient alternative to trains, where long waiting lists often make travel uncertain.
Among the routes, the Muzaffarpur–Delhi corridor has emerged as the most popular. Transport corporation data shows that 17,478 passengers have travelled on this route alone. Other routes such as Darbhanga to Gurugram and Gaya to Delhi have also witnessed heavy demand, with buses frequently running at near full capacity. Long-distance routes including Purnia to Ambala and Patna to Delhi have also attracted thousands of passengers seeking safer and more comfortable travel.
Passengers can book tickets online through the corporation’s official website, eliminating the need to queue at bus stations. The system allows payments through UPI, debit or credit cards, and net banking, making the booking process easier and more accessible for travellers.
Officials say the service, introduced with Holi and Eid travel demand in mind, will continue until March 23, 2026. Buses are currently operating from major hubs including Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga and Purnia, connecting passengers to destinations in Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Authorities have advised travellers to book tickets early to avoid the last-minute rush during the festive period.
