Patna: Bihar is likely to experience a mix of above-normal rainfall and rising temperatures in April, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting a transition towards hotter conditions accompanied by intermittent precipitation.

According to the monthly outlook issued by the meteorological centre in Patna on Wednesday, most parts of the state are expected to receive higher-than-normal rainfall during April. The forecast suggests that while rainfall activity will be present, it may not be sufficient to offset the overall warming trend.

Temperatures across Bihar are also projected to remain above normal. The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures in most regions are likely to exceed seasonal averages, with typical daytime highs ranging between 38°C and 40°C during the month.

Minimum temperatures are similarly expected to stay elevated, with average night-time temperatures forecast between 22°C and 24°C, again above normal levels for this time of year.

The outlook further warns of the likelihood of heatwave conditions in parts of the state during April, signalling potentially challenging weather, especially during peak afternoon hours.

The forecast follows a volatile March, which saw significantly higher-than-normal rainfall across Bihar — recorded at 214% above average — along with episodes of storms and hailstorms in several districts.

Meteorologists say the coming weeks will reflect a seasonal shift, with rising temperatures gradually dominating despite occasional rainfall. Urban areas, in particular, may experience intensified heat due to dense infrastructure and limited cooling effects.

Officials have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly during heatwave spells, and to take necessary precautions against dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

The outlook highlights a dual weather pattern for April — a combination of increased rainfall activity and intensifying heat — underscoring the variability of pre-monsoon conditions across Bihar.
