Patna: Nearly 29,000 voters whose names were removed from Bihar’s electoral roll have applied to be reinstated, according to the Election Commission.
The Commission had earlier announced that 65,00,000 names were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, citing reasons such as death, permanent migration, or lack of information. As of Saturday morning, 29,872 people have applied to have their names restored, while 13,33,000 first-time voters aged 18 and above have filled enrolment forms.
The deadline for filing claims and objections is September 1. The Commission has so far received 29,872 claims and 1,97,764 objections, out of which 33,771 were resolved within a week of submission. Political parties have appointed 1,60,000 booth-level agents, who registered 25 claims and 103 objections.
In Patna, the District Magistrate has launched a three-day special campaign across all polling stations, running from August 30 to September 1, to assist voters in filing claims and objections under Forms 6, 7 and 8. The programme is being conducted in all 14 assembly constituencies of the district.
