Patna: The Bihar cabinet on Wednesday approved the transfer of 1.85 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India for the expansion of the proposed civil enclave at Bihta Airbase.
The land, located adjacent to the airbase campus and previously part of an industrial area in Patna urban limits, will be handed over free of cost for airport-related infrastructure development.
Bihta Airport Expansion
A new civil enclave is being developed at Bihta as part of a large-scale airport expansion project whose foundation stone was laid by Narendra Modi on May 29, 2024.
The project later received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs with an estimated investment of Rs 1,413 crore.
Officials said the proposed terminal building will cover 66,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 3,000 passengers during peak hours, with annual passenger capacity projected at 5 million.

AI Training For Legislators And Officials
Among the 20 decisions approved during the cabinet meeting chaired by Samrat Choudhary was a proposal to provide artificial intelligence training to members of both houses of the state legislature, as well as government officials and staff.
Cabinet Secretariat Department’s Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Choudhary said the initiative aims to position Bihar among the leading states in AI adoption.
The programme will be conducted in collaboration with institutions including National University of Singapore, IIT Patna, C-DAC Patna, NIELIT Patna and Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna.
The state government has also constituted a Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission to promote AI-enabled governance and improve administrative efficiency.

Other Key Decisions
The cabinet extended the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Package (BIIPP) 2025 until June 30, 2026, citing continued investor interest.
Officials said amended Bihar Building Bylaws 2026 were also approved to streamline construction permissions and address urbanisation pressures.
In another decision, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 31.45 lakh for implementation of an e-voting system for senior citizens, differently abled persons and people with incurable illnesses in municipal corporation elections scheduled for 2026.
The system will be implemented by Hyderabad-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
The tenure of the Seventh State Finance Commission was also extended until September 30, 2026.
Additionally, the government approved naming the upcoming government medical college and hospital in Sitamarhi after Maa Sita.
