Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar marked Independence Day with a series of announcements aimed at boosting employment and public welfare, including a sharp reduction in fees for preliminary government recruitment exams.
Addressing a gathering at Gandhi Maidan in Patna after hoisting the tricolour, CM Nitish said candidates appearing for preliminary (PT) competitive examinations conducted by all state commissions – including the Bihar Public Service Commission, Bihar Staff Selection Commission, Bihar Technical Service Commission, Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission and the Central Constable Selection Board – will now pay only Rs 100. Those who qualify for the main examinations will be exempt from any further fees.
“This step will benefit lakhs of young people,” Kumar said in a post on X. “From the start, it has been our priority to create more opportunities for government jobs and secure the future of our youth.”

The fee reform is part of four major announcements made by the chief minister. He reaffirmed his government’s pledge to generate one crore jobs and employment opportunities within five years, announced the construction of new medical colleges in Kishanganj, Katihar, Rohtas, Shivhar, Lakhisarai and Arwal, and promised special transport services for residents returning home for Diwali, Chhath and Holi.
CM Nitish also said subsidies for setting up new industries in the state would be doubled to encourage investment and job creation.
