Patna: Ten Panchayat heads from Bihar, recognised for their work in environmental protection, cleanliness and community welfare, were special guests at the main Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort in Delhi. The central government invited them on the basis of their exceptional performance.
Among those honoured were Ravi Kumar of Kurkuri Panchayat in Phulwarisharif, Patna; Virendra Singh of Tumba, Rohtas; Manju Devi of Khurahan in Alamnagar, Madhepura; Kanti Devi of Koran Sarai in Dumraon, Buxar; Ramji Sharma of Sanda in Tikari, Gaya; and Pooja Kumari of Garari in Konch, Gaya. They were joined by Suman Thakur of Jajuar Madhya in Katra, Muzaffarpur; Tripti of Parthu in Ekangarasrai, Nalanda; Nibha Kumari of Panhada in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad; and Prema Devi of Motipur in Rosda, Samastipur.
These Panchayats have played a significant role in advancing the Swachh Bharat Mission, promoting biogas use, conserving water, producing fertiliser from organic waste, and protecting the environment. Their work has been hailed as a model for sustainable rural development.
