Patna: The Bihar unit of the Congress has expelled seven senior leaders for six years, citing repeated breaches of party discipline and conduct deemed damaging to the organisation.
Those removed from the party’s primary membership include former Congress Seva Dal vice-president Aditya Paswan, former state vice-president Shakeelur Rahman, former Kisan Congress chief Rajkumar Rajan, former Backward Class Department head Kundan Gupta, Banka district president Kanchana Kumari and Ravi Golden from Nalanda. The decision was issued by the State Congress Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Kapildev Prasad.
According to the committee, all seven leaders failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their actions. Their behaviour, the order noted, violated three of the five criteria that constitute a breach of party discipline. The committee accused them of repeatedly making public statements contradicting Congress policies, ignoring directives from authorised leaders, and levelling “baseless and misleading” allegations in the media, including claims of ticket buying and selling.
The party said it had maintained transparency on all matters raised by the leaders and dismissed their accusations as attempts to mislead workers and the public. It added that organisational processes — including the appointment of observers, outreach programmes, meetings of the State Election Committee and candidate selection — had been carried out only after deliberation by the All India Election Committee.
Despite being appointed as Assembly observers with the approval of central observer Avinash Pandey, the leaders continued to act in defiance of party decisions, the committee said. Their conduct, it added, was aimed at creating confusion within the organisation. On the basis of these findings, the State Congress Disciplinary Committee confirmed the expulsion of all seven leaders for a period of six years.
