Patna/Motihari: Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is on a day-long visit to Bihar today. She began her program in Patna by interacting with around 2,000 women at Sadakat Ashram at noon. Later in the day, she will travel to Motihari to address party workers and supporters at a massive rally scheduled at Gandhi Maidan.
This is Priyanka Gandhi’s first independent event in Bihar. In August, she had joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Vote Adhikar Yatra.
Motihari Rally Preparations in Full Swing
Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Motihari holds special significance as it is her first to the historic land associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha. She is expected to land at the Police Lines by helicopter between 2 and 2:30 pm before proceeding directly to Gandhi Maidan for the “Har Ghar Adhikari Rally.”
The Congress has claimed that 2 to 3 lakh people, largely women, will participate in the rally. Party workers from neighboring districts have already started arriving in Motihari. Local leaders of the Grand Alliance estimate that around 3,000 alliance workers will also be present.
The venue has been prepared with tents, a stage, and barricades, while police deployment has been increased to ensure crowd management and security.
Dialogue with Women at Sadakat Ashram
Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi interacted with nearly 2,000 women from across Bihar at Patna’s Sadakat Ashram. The gathering included domestic workers, MNREGA laborers, Jeevika Didis, Anganwadi and ASHA workers, as well as professionals like doctors and lawyers.
Women’s Congress National President Alka Lamba said, “Women from all walks of life are coming to participate in this dialogue. The support pouring in for Priyanka Gandhi will expose the BJP. After her visit, other women leaders from Delhi will also campaign in Bihar.”
Political Significance
Congress leaders see Priyanka Gandhi’s outreach as an attempt to connect with women voters in Bihar ahead of upcoming political campaigns. With women expected to form a large part of her audience both in Patna and Motihari, the party is aiming to mobilize a strong grassroots presence in the state.
