Patna: Differently-abled children in Bihar will now be able to enrol in private schools under the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, following directives issued by the state’s education and social welfare authorities.
A high-level review meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Vandana Preyashi, Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, and Dr B. Rajender, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, focused on improving access to education for Divyang children. Officials discussed challenges in integrating differently-abled students into private institutions and proposed measures to ensure their inclusion.
Dr Rajender announced the formation of a committee, led by the Director of Primary Education, to recommend strategies for enrolling Divyang students in private schools. He also instructed the preparation of a standard operating procedure and urged immediate consultations with private school associations to facilitate the process.
Preyashi highlighted the difficulties currently faced by differently-abled students and stressed that the Social Welfare Department would provide full support to ensure quality education is accessible to all Divyang children.
The meeting was attended by Yogesh Kumar Sagar, Director of the Directorate of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Vikram Virkar, Director of Primary Education, and other senior officials.
