Patna: Political activity in Bihar is intensifying after the announcement of the 2025 assembly elections, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar holding a major meeting at his residence on Thursday to finalise Janata Dal (United) candidates.
The meeting, which began at 10am, has brought together senior JD(U) leaders, with the agenda focused on candidate selection. Party insiders say Kumar is expected to finalise the list today, a move seen as crucial ahead of any formal agreement on seat sharing within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Negotiations between the NDA and the rival Grand Alliance remain deadlocked, with both coalitions yet to strike a consensus on dividing seats. NDA partners continue to press their claims, while Tejashwi Yadav faces growing pressure from allies within the Grand Alliance over their demands.
The day is shaping up to be pivotal in Bihar’s political calendar. Alongside the JD(U)’s deliberations, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has scheduled a key meeting, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan has called an emergency gathering of his party.
With talks stretching from Patna to Delhi, party leaders are scrambling to balance alliance commitments with individual ambitions, underscoring the stakes in what is expected to be one of Bihar’s most tightly contested elections.
