Patna: Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraaj Party has mounted a full-scale challenge in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, fielding 239 candidates across the state in the two-phase polls. The party, contesting independently against both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Grand Alliance, has positioned itself as an alternative force in this election cycle.
The party’s top seven candidates are attracting significant attention:
– Sarfaraz Alam from Jokihat
– KC Sinha from Kumhrar
– Preeti Kinnar from Bhore
– Abu Affan Farooq from Kochadhaman
– Ritesh Ranjan Pandey from Kargahar
– Manish Kashyap from Chanpachatia, where he is currently leading
The candidate list reflects a wide mix of backgrounds. Several are doctors, engineers, and professionals, while others come from political or grassroots leadership roles. Notably, 85 candidates have declared agriculture as their primary occupation in their affidavits, signalling a strong rural representation.
Jan Suraaj has also highlighted education profiles in its candidate pool. Fifty-five candidates are postgraduates, 94 are graduates, and 11 hold PhDs. Additionally, 34 candidates have completed Class 12, and 18 have listed Class 10 as their highest qualification.
As counting progresses, the performance of Jan Suraaj’s key candidates will be closely watched to assess the party’s impact and whether it can convert its extensive outreach into electoral gains.
