Purnia: Political tensions in Bihar intensified on Saturday night as Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav staged a surprise visit to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Purnia, highlighting what he described as the collapse of the state’s healthcare system under two decades of NDA rule.
Tejashwi, who had addressed a rally earlier in Muzaffarpur before travelling east, walked through the wards of the hospital, filming scenes of patients on the floor, broken toilets and a visibly distressed patient. He later posted the footage on X, accusing the government of “criminal neglect”.

“See a small sample of the poor health system of the NDA government of 20 years,” Yadav wrote, calling Bihar’s health minister “ominous” and “useless” in what amounted to one of his sharpest pre-election attacks so far.
The timing of the inspection appeared deliberate. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected in Purnia to inaugurate several projects, including the long-awaited airport, a visit being billed by the NDA as proof of its development credentials.
Tejashwi’s gambit signals a strategic attempt by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to shift attention from infrastructure announcements to questions of public welfare. It comes as healthcare, education and employment are emerging as major campaign issues in the run-up to the assembly elections.
