Patna: The Bihar government has initiated a statewide exercise to collect employment-related data from multiple departments as part of a broader effort to develop a long-term strategy for job creation and skill development.
According to officials, the move comes under directions issued by the state government to assess the scale of existing employment generated through various government schemes. Acting on these instructions, the Building Construction Department has sought detailed reports from its field offices across Bihar.
Chief engineers, superintending engineers and executive engineers have been directed to furnish information on the number of people currently employed under schemes operating within their respective jurisdictions.
The data will subsequently be shared with the Department of Employment and Skill Development, which is preparing a comprehensive framework aimed at expanding employment opportunities across the state between 2025 and 2030.
Officials familiar with the process said the department is compiling consolidated figures relating to employment generation and job placements across sectors. During a recent review meeting, departments were instructed to gather workforce data linked to all schemes, including those categorised under both plan and non-plan heads.
The government has asked officials to submit the reports within one week of receiving the directive and has instructed departments to treat the exercise as a priority matter.
The initiative is intended to help the state government identify the extent of current employment generation, assess gaps and formulate targeted policies to create new jobs. It also aims to establish a centralised repository of employment-related data generated through government programmes.
Employment generation has remained a politically significant issue in Bihar in recent years. The previous administration led by Nitish Kumar had placed emphasis on job creation and recruitment drives. Deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary has also indicated that the current administration intends to continue prioritising the issue.
