Patna: The Bihar government has approved the expansion of the core areas of the proposed Greenfield Satellite Townships at Pataliputra (Patna) and Tirhut (Muzaffarpur), alongside measures to facilitate infrastructure development across several planned urban centres.
The decision, taken in state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, also authorises the purchase or acquisition of land outside Town Planning Schemes for the development of infrastructure, public services and allied facilities in the core and peripheral special areas of Pataliputra (Patna), Hariharnathpur (Sonpur), Magadh (Gaya Ji) and Tirhut (Muzaffarpur).
According to the government, the move is intended to accelerate master plan-based development and support the creation of modern urban infrastructure.
Land Acquisition To Support Planned Urban Development
The approval enables the state government to acquire land beyond existing Town Planning Schemes wherever required for roads, utilities, public infrastructure and other essential facilities within the designated satellite townships.
Officials said the expansion is expected to facilitate integrated urban planning while creating conditions conducive to private investment.

The government believes the development of planned townships with modern civic amenities will stimulate local economic activity, generate employment opportunities and contribute to the long-term economic development of surrounding regions.
CEPT Advisory Foundation To Provide Technical Support
The state has also approved the appointment of the CEPT Advisory Foundation, affiliated with CEPT University in Ahmedabad, as the Technical Support Unit on a nomination basis for the Greenfield Satellite Township programme.
The organisation will provide technical assistance in project planning and implementation, while supporting the government in strategic planning, policy formulation and execution of approved master plans.

Focus On Project Monitoring And Institutional Strengthening
According to the government, the Technical Support Unit will assist in strengthening regulatory and institutional frameworks, improving coordination among departments and monitoring the implementation of township projects.
Officials said the arrangement is expected to improve project management, enhance transparency and help ensure that infrastructure projects are completed within prescribed timelines and quality standards.
