Patna: The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Bihar between August 22 and 26, as the monsoon trough is expected to shift northwards across the state.
According to the latest analysis of synoptic and numerical models, the trough currently runs from Navlaya, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Betul, Mandla, Sambalpur and Chandbali into the east-central Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists said it is likely to move northwards in the coming days, keeping monsoon conditions active and significantly increasing rainfall activity across Bihar.
The impact is expected to be most pronounced in southern and eastern districts, where heavy downpours, thunderstorms and lightning are forecast. The Met Centre has urged the public to exercise caution during this period.
Potential impacts include rising river levels, reduced visibility and slippery roads, waterlogging in urban low-lying areas and underpasses, damage to standing crops and weak structures, and risks to human and animal safety from lightning strikes.
Officials have advised residents to avoid bathing, swimming or boating in rivers during heavy rain, and to seek shelter in sturdy buildings when thunder is heard. People have also been cautioned not to take cover under isolated trees. Farmers have been asked to postpone agricultural work during bad weather and resume only once conditions improve.
