Gaya: Jan Suraaj party leader Gajendra Singh survived an attack in Bihar on Monday night when gunmen on a motorbike fired three bullets at his vehicle, one of which struck his car. Singh, a ward councillor and potential candidate for the Gaya City Assembly constituency, escaped unharmed.
According to local reports, Singh was returning from Chandauti, his constituency, to meet an acquaintance in Gaya. On his way back to his residence in AP Colony, the gunmen opened fire between the LIC office and DPS School on Chandauti Road. Singh immediately drove to the Rampur police station, where he lodged a formal complaint.
“The incident took place between the LIC office and DPS School under the Rampur Police Station. Jan Suraaj leader Gajendra Singh has filed a written complaint at the police station, following which an investigation has been initiated,” said Dinesh Bahadur Singh, in-charge of Rampur Police Station. He added that the location lacked CCTV cameras but assured that the investigation was ongoing and that the perpetrators would be apprehended.
The attack comes amid the announcement of dates for the Bihar Assembly elections, raising concerns over political violence in the region. Singh has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
