Patna: The Bihar government has launched a major initiative to support the Khadi industry and promote self-reliance in rural areas. Under the scheme, charkhas and looms will be provided to Khadi institutions at a 90% subsidy, making essential equipment affordable for small producers. The move is expected to create new employment opportunities and encourage more people to take up Khadi production as a profession.
In addition to the subsidy, the government is offering an affordable loan facility of ₹40,000 per charkha at an annual interest rate of 4%. This will help weavers expand their production capacity, improve efficiency, and reach larger markets for their products. Officials have said that the scheme supports the government’s larger goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and the Vocal for Local campaign, which aim to promote local industries and products.
Khadi has long been a symbol of India’s cultural heritage, self-reliance, and respect for the environment. Beyond being a fabric, it represents sustainable development and rural empowerment. The Bihar government believes this scheme will help Khadi producers gain recognition in both national and international markets, while also encouraging environmentally friendly practices.
The scheme is expected to have a particularly strong impact in rural areas. By creating employment for women and young people, it will boost local economies, strengthen village markets, and reduce migration to cities. Khadi institutions and weavers who want to participate in the scheme can find more information at kvibbihar.com.
