Patna/Bettiah: A dispute over a one-foot strip of land turned deadly in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Sunday, when a 60-year-old woman was beaten to death with an iron rod, police said.
The incident took place in Senuaria village under Sirisia police station in Bettiah. The victim, identified as Ramkali Devi, wife of Ramchandra Mahato, died on the spot after sustaining serious injuries during a violent altercation linked to a long-running boundary dispute.
Following the attack, panic spread through the village, prompting residents to alert the police. Officers from Sirisia police station, along with teams from several neighbouring stations, were deployed to restore order and prevent further violence.
The woman’s body has been sent to the Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. Police officials said the dispute had been ongoing for some time and escalated suddenly on Sunday morning.
Authorities have described the situation as tense but under control, with additional police personnel stationed in the area as a precaution. An investigation has been launched, and officials said those responsible would be identified and prosecuted.
The killing has once again drawn attention to the persistence of violent land disputes in rural Bihar, where disagreements over even small parcels of land can escalate into fatal confrontations.
