Patna: LPG connections of consumers who have not completed the mandatory e-KYC process are being blocked from October 1, affecting around 34 lakh domestic LPG consumers in Bihar.
Of the approximately 2.28 crore domestic LPG consumers in the state, e-KYC has been completed for around 1.94 crore, while about 34 lakh remain pending, according to available company-wise data.
Consumers Discover Blockage After Cylinder Booking
Many consumers are reportedly finding that their LPG connection has been blocked only when they attempt to book a cylinder online. The issue has emerged during the festive season, when demand for domestic cooking gas is generally higher.
Petroleum companies have said that connections blocked because of pending e-KYC will be reactivated after the verification process is completed.
34 Lakh E-KYCs Still Pending
Company-wise data shows that Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has about 22 lakh pending e-KYCs among 1.10 crore consumers. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has around 7 lakh pending cases out of 56 lakh consumers, while Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has about 5 lakh pending e-KYCs among 62 lakh consumers.
E-KYC Process Underway Since June 30
According to public sector oil companies, the LPG e-KYC exercise has been underway since June 30, 2026. Companies have said the deadline was extended several times and consumers were informed about the requirement through SMS.
The exercise is aimed at identifying inactive and potentially duplicate or unauthorised connections and reducing the possibility of black marketing, according to the companies.
Aadhaar Name Mismatch Can Delay Verification
Some consumers have reportedly faced difficulties completing e-KYC because the name registered on their Aadhaar card does not match the name recorded against their LPG connection.
In such cases, consumers may need to verify their identity and update or correct the relevant details before the e-KYC can be completed.
How To Complete LPG E-KYC From Home
Consumers of Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas can complete e-KYC through their respective mobile applications.
– Indane: IndianOil ONE app
– Bharat Gas: HelloBPCL app
– HP Gas: HP PAY app
The process involves Aadhaar-based identity verification and face authentication. Consumers may need to install the Aadhaar FaceRD application to complete the face-based biometric verification.
Connections To Be Reactivated After Verification
Consumers whose LPG connections have been blocked because of pending e-KYC do not necessarily need to apply for a new connection. Petroleum companies have stated that the blocked connection will be reactivated once the required e-KYC and verification process is completed.
Consumers who have encountered a blockage while booking a cylinder can therefore complete the pending e-KYC and then check the connection status again.
Complaints Over Higher Open-Market Prices
Some consumers have also reported being charged higher prices for domestic LPG cylinders in the open market. Reports cited prices of around Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,400 for cylinders that normally cost around Rs 1,000.
Such sales and pricing complaints are separate from the e-KYC requirement and should be reported to the concerned LPG distributor or petroleum company for verification.
