Patna: Bihar’s new cabinet began settling into office on Monday as Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha formally assumed charge, marking the first full working day for several of the state’s senior ministers under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
In a day of quick transitions, ministers across crucial portfolios — from road construction and labour to energy and minority welfare — took control of their departments and signalled an early burst of administrative activity.
Nitin Nabin sets road agenda: four-lane corridors every 40km
Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin was among the first to step into his new office. Speaking to reporters, he announced an ambitious plan to ensure a four-lane road facility every 40 kilometres across Bihar.
He said road projects announced by Nitish Kumar during the Pragati Yatra would be prioritised, adding that the department would work “in line with the Prime Minister’s vision” and deliver schemes on time.
Nabin later emphasised that the government’s 2025–26 agenda would focus on “accelerating the roadmap built over 20 years”.
Labour, animal husbandry and energy ministers assume responsibilities
Labour Resources Minister Sanjay Singh Tiger also took charge, saying he would “accelerate work and meet departmental goals”, with worker welfare listed as his primary commitment.
At around the same time, Animal Husbandry Minister Surendra Mehta and Energy Minister Bijendra Yadav assumed office, both beginning departmental briefings immediately after their arrival.
Minority Welfare Minister Jama Khan also took charge, stressing that departmental programmes would soon move into an implementation phase.
More ministers join through the day
Later updates indicated that Shravan Kumar was expected to take charge of the Transport Department after 12:30pm, according to government sources.
Nitin Nabin, who also oversees Urban Development, said he would prepare a 2025–2030 development roadmap upon assuming full charge of the department.
