Patna: The monsoon has returned to Bihar with renewed intensity, bringing widespread showers across Patna and several districts on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 30 districts over the next 24 hours, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph.
Meteorologists attribute the reactivation to moisture from the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure system forming over north Bihar. While southern districts are expected to see lighter rainfall, northern parts of the state face the prospect of intense downpours, with officials warning of erosion, flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas along the Ganges and its tributaries.
Patna is forecast to receive light to moderate showers through the day, with intermittent rain likely to continue into Monday. The IMD has also cautioned residents about possible lightning strikes and urged them to avoid electrical equipment and remain in safe places during storms.
Although the rainfall is expected to bring relief from weeks of oppressive humidity, it will also create urban challenges such as waterlogging, traffic congestion and potential crop losses. The IMD projects maximum temperatures of 32–33°C and minimums around 25–26°C across major districts, offering some respite from the heat.
Authorities say the current spell of rainfall is likely to persist for several days, impacting both rural and urban life. Transport, particularly road and rail services, is expected to be disrupted in flood-prone areas.
