Patna: Bihar’s pursuit of energy self-sufficiency has received a significant push with the successful operation of another unit at the NTPC Super Thermal Power Plant in Barh, Patna district.
The third and final unit of Stage-1, with a capacity of 660 MW, is set to commence commercial production from July 1, securing an additional 370 MW of electricity supply for the state.
This development brings the Barh plant’s total installed capacity to 3,300 MW, enhancing Bihar’s ability to meet surging power demands, particularly during peak periods.
According to figures from NTPC, Bihar has been allocated 1,110 MW of power from Stage-1 under its 56.08% share of the plant’s output. From Stage-2, comprising two units of 660 MW each, the state receives 1,136 MW, representing an 86.04% share. Altogether, Bihar now secures an assured supply of 2,246 MW from the Barh facility.
Officials say the increased capacity will not only cater to domestic and industrial energy requirements but also strengthen the stability of Bihar’s power grid. Rural areas, in particular, are expected to benefit from more reliable and uninterrupted power, supporting broader economic development across the state.
