Rohtas: Police in Bihar’s Rohtas district have rescued 17 girls during a raid on a red-light locality where alleged exploitation was being carried out under the cover of orchestra performances, officials said.
The operation took place in Bardihā village under the Nasriganj police station area after officers received a tip-off on 25 November that minors were being brought in from several states and coerced into illegal activities. A police team raided a house in the area, where the girls — from parts of Chhattisgarh and Bihar — were found. They were taken to the Sadar Hospital in Sasaram for medical examination and subsequently handed over to the district women’s welfare committee.
A case has been registered under multiple sections, police said. Three individuals, identified as local orchestra organisers, were arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking network. According to superintendent of police Roshan Kumar, the accused were reportedly bringing girls from states such as Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh with promises of orchestra work but allegedly forced them into exploitation upon arrival.
Kumar added that a dedicated investigative team has been formed under the Vikramganj sub-divisional police officer to carry out further action. Senior officers from multiple police stations, including Rajpur, Nasriganj, Dehri women’s police station, Kachchawan, Karakat and Ayer Kotha, have been included in the probe.
Police are also verifying the past criminal records of the accused and mapping their wider network. Eleven people have been named in the case, and raids are under way to locate the remaining suspects.
