Patna, August 8 – The Bihar Police Department is set to shift all its operations to a digital platform, following the model of several other government departments. A committee headed by IG P Kannan has been formed to study and oversee the transition, and has recently returned from visits to Telangana and Karnataka to examine their fully digital systems.
ADG Sudhanshu Kumar said preparations are underway on a large scale, with plans to make the system mobile-based and capable of preserving documents, exhibits and other crucial records in a secure, tamper-proof digital format. The move is expected to enhance efficiency and aligns with the need for digital evidence collection under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The digitisation plan includes transitioning all police registers, manuals, and file exchanges to online formats. Kumar noted that the functioning of Telangana and Karnataka police is being closely studied to adapt their systems for Bihar.
Alongside the digitisation push, Bihar Police is also upgrading infrastructure across the state. Recent developments include the transfer of 32.38 acres for the Bihar Special Armed Police-6 in Muzaffarpur, land for 24 police station buildings, two SDPO offices, five zonal police inspector offices, and four SP residences in Begusarai. Additionally, Rs 1.66 crore has been allocated for a secondary command and control centre for Dial-112 in Gaya, with land secured for related facilities in Patna and an STF office in Lodipur.
