Patna: In a major show of strength for Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, several prominent political leaders and hundreds of workers from across Bihar formally joined the party during a public gathering held at Sheikhpura House on Bailey Road on Friday.
Among the high-profile figures who announced their induction were former BJP state general secretary Sudhir Sharma, BJP Mahila Morcha vice-president Vinita Mishra, and entrepreneur Chetna Jhamb from Samastipur. Former Congress district president from West Champaran, Ajay Giri, and several professionals and social workers from across the state were also welcomed into the fold.
The event was presided over by Jan Suraj Party’s national president Uday Singh, who draped new members in the party’s symbolic yellow scarf. “People across Bihar are now realising that Jan Suraj offers real solutions to their problems,” Singh said. “As the national president, I am proud to see so many respected figures joining us.”

Prashant Kishor, the party’s chief strategist, emphasised that Jan Suraj is not formed in opposition to any party but as a platform for those seeking systemic change. “People who once symbolised integrity and vision in BJP are now part of Jan Suraj,” he said. Drawing on mythology, he remarked, “Like Abhimanyu, it is not just the sacrifice but the betrayal that must be remembered.”
Kishor also suggested that a political shift is underway in Bihar. Referring to Nitish Kumar’s new yellow-coloured campaign material and bus, he quipped, “Even the Chief Minister seems to be signalling that the road ahead leads to Jan Suraj.”
Sudhir Sharma, in a scathing critique of the BJP, said the party had become a “slaughterhouse for grassroots workers.” He added that Bihar is now caught in a power struggle between “RJD-1 and RJD-2”, but Jan Suraj offers a credible alternative.
State party president Manoj Bharti accused the BJP of failing Bihar, despite its contributions at the national level. “That’s why leaders from across the spectrum, particularly from the BJP, are now joining us,” he said.
Vinita Mishra expressed gratitude to Prashant Kishor and Uday Singh, while Chetna Jhamb spoke of restoring Bihar’s past glory and international standing under Jan Suraj’s leadership.
Others who joined the party include BJP Yuva Morcha state media in-charge Pallav Kumar Singh; Dr Shashi Shekhar Sharma from Gopalganj; Delhi University professor (retired) Dr Somendra Kumar Singh from Sitamarhi; Umashankar Das Shastri, former chief priest of Patna’s Mahavir Mandir; social worker Vishwajit Bharti from Katihar; entrepreneur Rinku Giri; Patna High Court lawyer Rajesh Kumar Mishra; and academic activist Amitesh Kumar from Saran.
