: Bihar’s political landscape plunged into deeper turmoil on Saturday after Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, declared that she was stepping away from both politics and her own family. Her announcement comes in the immediate aftermath of the RJD’s crushing defeat in the Bihar assembly elections, a result that has intensified internal discontent and reopened long-simmering factional tensions.
Rohini, who has frequently been one of Lalu’s most vocal supporters, publicly accused Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides of engineering the party’s downfall. Her move has sent shockwaves through the RJD, prompting urgent conversations about leadership failures and internal mismanagement.
I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family …
This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do …nd I’m taking all the blame’s— Rohini Acharya (@RohiniAcharya2) November 15, 2025
Rohini’s Public Statement Sparks Speculation
In a strongly worded post on X, Rohini wrote:
“I am leaving politics and distancing myself from my family… Sanjay Yadav and Rameez told me to do this… and I am taking the blame upon myself.”
Her message set off a political storm, with senior RJD leaders scrambling to contain the narrative as speculation grew over widening rifts within the Yadav household. Although Rohini refrained from naming Tejashwi directly, her reference to “close advisers” has been widely interpreted as an indictment of Sanjay Yadav, Tejashwi’s long-time political strategist.
Sources within the party suggest that anger against Tejashwi’s inner circle has been intensifying since the election results. Rohini’s outburst, many say, is the most public sign yet of the growing frustration within the family.
RJD’s Electoral Drubbing and the Blame Game
The RJD’s poor performance — one of its worst showings in recent years — appears to have set off a wave of finger-pointing. Internal critics argue that Tejashwi’s campaign choices, over-reliance on a small group of advisers and a flawed outreach strategy alienated traditional voter bases.
Rohini’s statement has only amplified these criticisms. Her remark that the party’s deterioration was enabled by “Sanjay Yadav & company” has emboldened those within the organisation who have long questioned Tejashwi’s political judgment.
Political analysts say her exit not only exposes the deepening cracks in the party’s leadership structure but also complicates Lalu Prasad’s attempts to hold the organisation together ahead of coalition negotiations.
Family Rift Goes Public
For decades, the Yadav family has maintained a united public front despite internal disagreements. Rohini’s decision to explicitly break ties with the family marks an unprecedented rupture.
Her announcement comes at a time when the party is grappling with a generational transition of leadership, the pressures of electoral losses, and a rapidly shifting political calculus in Bihar.
While senior RJD figures attempted to downplay the controversy, the public nature of the rift has made containment difficult. Social media has only accelerated the debate, with party loyalists and critics weighing in on what Rohini’s departure means for Tejashwi’s authority.
What This Means for the RJD
Rohini Acharya’s exit lays bare the fragility within the party’s top ranks:
-
Leadership legitimacy: Questions are now being asked about Tejashwi’s decision-making and his dependence on close advisers.
-
Internal democracy: Critics argue the party has become overly centralised, leaving little room for dissent.
-
Public perception: The family drama has overshadowed RJD’s post-election messaging and may weaken its footing further.
