Patna: While Bihar has received widespread and beneficial rainfall this season, boosting agricultural activities, the continuous downpour has also led to waterlogging and a potential flood situation in many areas. Addressing the departmental preparations, Water Resources Department Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary stated today that Bihar, being a flood-prone state, is significantly impacted by water flowing in from rivers originating in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Nepal. Of particular concern is the rising water level of the Ganga river at several points.
Minister Chaudhary assured the public that the department is continuously monitoring the situation, especially upstream sites like Banaras and Prayagraj (Allahabad). According to current information, the water level of the Ganga is expected to gradually recede starting tomorrow. However, the department remains fully prepared for any emergency. All engineers, technical teams, and district-level officers are operating in alert mode.
He emphasized that the Water Resources Department and the Government of Bihar are vigilant at every level regarding flood control. Should a flood situation arise, advance preparations for disaster relief operations have been ensured, including continuous monitoring of embankments, necessary repair work, regular patrolling, and the availability of relief materials.
The government’s top priority, Minister Chaudhary affirmed, is the safety and protection of citizens’ lives, and the department is working with full dedication and promptness to achieve this goal.
