Patna: Bihar’s public infrastructure expansion gathered pace this week after a state-level review confirmed that more than 450 panchayat government buildings have been completed, with construction underway on over 200 block-cum-circle office buildings across the state.
The review meeting, chaired by Kumar Ravi, secretary of the Building Construction Department, assessed projects being implemented across 19 departments, including home (prisons), minority welfare, rural development and general administration. Officials examined progress, flagged delays and discussed measures to strengthen monitoring and grievance redressal systems.

The department is currently constructing 2,615 panchayat government buildings. Of these, over 450 are complete and around 300 are in the final stages of finishing. Authorities have set a target to complete 1,000 buildings within the next two to three months, signalling a renewed push to reinforce grassroots governance infrastructure.
Work is also progressing on block-cum-circle offices in 240 blocks and office-cum-residential complexes in 59 blocks. More than 200 such projects have begun, while tenders for the remaining sites are being processed. The secretary emphasised that bidding must remain competitive and transparent.
Quality control formed a central focus of the meeting. Engineers have been directed to conduct weekly site inspections, hold regular reviews with contractors and ensure construction materials meet prescribed standards. Progress updates on the PIMS portal will be monitored at senior levels, with strict action promised against any compromise in quality.
