Patna: The political landscape of Magadh and Seemanchal is bracing for a shake-up after former IPS officer Shivdeep Lande, widely known as Bihar’s “Singham,” officially announced his entry into electoral politics. The former “super cop” revealed in a social media livestream on October 8th that he will contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from two high-profile seats: Araria and Jamalpur.
Lande’s decision to launch a dual candidacy immediately sets him up as a formidable independent force. Araria is his native district, where his social work has maintained a long-standing public connection. Jamalpur, conversely, is an area central to his administrative career, where he cultivated his reputation for toughness and zero-tolerance crime fighting. Despite the complex caste and social dynamics inherent in both constituencies, Lande expressed confidence that voters would instead prioritize “honesty and service.”
A System Reformer, Not a Power Seeker
Lande stated clearly that his motivation for entering the fray was not the pursuit of power, but a mission to “reform the system from within” and to “present honest politics as an alternative” to traditional party structures.
During his tenures in Munger, Patna, and Araria, Lande led several successful, high-profile operations that curbed crime, earning him his “Singham” moniker and millions of enthusiastic followers on social media. His transition to politics has sparked a wave of enthusiasm, particularly among Bihar’s youth.
The Hind Sena Platform
Lande made his political intentions clear earlier this year, announcing the formation of his party, “Hind Sena,” in April. He specified that the party would be built upon foundational values of humanity, social justice, and public service.
While organizational activities for Hind Sena are nascent, Lande emphasized that he will not be relying on the banner of any established political party. “The time has come for people with honest and nationalist thinking to enter politics. Criticism from outside is easy, but real change can be brought about from within,” he asserted, making it clear his campaign will be purely based on public support. His two-seat strategy solidifies his determination to leverage his popular reputation against established political machinery.
