Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to construct modern six-storey bus stands in 16 districts as part of a broader effort to improve passenger facilities and strengthen the state’s transport infrastructure.
The project will be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Officials said the initiative will cover districts outside the nine divisional headquarters, including Patna.
Construction work for the first phase is expected to begin shortly.
Six-Storey Model Bus Stands Planned
According to the proposed plan, the new bus terminals will be developed as G+5 structures equipped with modern passenger amenities.
The government aims to transform conventional bus depots into integrated transport hubs with facilities comparable to those available at railway stations and airports.
Officials said the redesigned bus stands will focus on passenger comfort, safety and accessibility.
Air-Conditioned Waiting Areas
Two floors of each complex will be dedicated to fully air-conditioned waiting halls for passengers.
The waiting areas will include improved seating arrangements and separate lounges for senior citizens, women and families travelling with children.
Authorities said the facilities are intended to reduce congestion and improve convenience for passengers during long waiting periods.
Medical Support and Ambulance Services
The proposed bus stands will also include on-site medical facilities.
Doctors and ambulance services will be stationed within the premises to respond to emergencies. Officials said passengers requiring urgent medical attention would be provided free ambulance transport to the hospital of their choice.
The move comes amid growing emphasis on improving emergency response systems at public transport centres.
Focus on Infrastructure Upgrade
The Bihar government said the initiative forms part of a wider plan to modernise public transport infrastructure across the state.
In addition to improved cleanliness and security arrangements, the bus stands are expected to provide better crowd management and passenger services under one roof.
Officials said the project is designed to support increasing passenger traffic while improving the overall travel experience for inter-district commuters.
