Munger: Heavy rain and strong winds have caused massive destruction in many parts of Bihar, especially in Munger district’s Tarapur area. The sudden storm hit just when farmers were preparing to harvest their paddy crops. Within a few hours, the hard work of an entire year was ruined. The paddy crops that were golden and ready to be cut now lie flat and waterlogged in the fields. What was supposed to be a time of happiness and reward has turned into deep sadness and worry for farmers.
In Tarapur, which is known as the “rice bowl” of the region, the damage is widespread. Farmers said that the storm came suddenly and left no time to protect their crops. The heavy rain and strong wind bent down the paddy plants completely. “We had planned to start harvesting in just a few days,” said a local farmer. “But the storm came and destroyed everything. Now there is nothing left to take home.” For many families, this loss means not just the destruction of their crops, but also the loss of their only source of income.
The storm and rain affected several parts of North India, but Bihar’s farmers seem to have suffered the most. The timing of the storm has made the situation worse, as the crops were fully ripe and almost ready for harvest. Farmers said they had taken loans to plant and care for their fields. With their crops destroyed, they now have no idea how they will repay the money. “We had hoped this harvest would help us clear our debts,” said another farmer. “But now, we are left with nothing but debt and disappointment.”
Local officials have started visiting the affected areas to assess the damage. However, farmers are demanding quick help from the government, such as compensation and financial relief. Agricultural experts warn that if the losses are not addressed soon, it could affect the overall rice production in the state. For now, the fields of Tarapur tell a heartbreaking story — of farmers who worked hard all year only to see their dreams washed away by one night of storm and rain.
