Patna: Bihar is set to get its first Sports Science Centre aimed at enhancing the performance of athletes through scientific training and modern facilities. The centre will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore on the lines of the National Sports Science Centre.
According to officials, the facility will be established at the Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna and the Rajgir Sports Academy. The project is expected to be completed and handed over to athletes by next year.
The Sports Science Centre will focus on strengthening athletes technically and physically. It will offer facilities such as performance analysis, sports nutrition, and sports massage. Experts will also work on injury prevention and provide rehabilitation support to help athletes recover quickly from injuries.
The centre will use scientific methods to analyse athletes’ strength, endurance, and speed, and provide tailored training programmes to improve overall performance. Specialists in physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and sports psychology will be involved in developing athletes’ capabilities.
Meanwhile, the state is also planning to set up a dedicated women’s football academy at the Rajgir Sports Complex. The academy will be exclusively for female players and is expected to serve as a training hub, including for the national team.
Officials said that up to 12 international matches could be hosted annually at the facility. In this regard, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has proposed a strategic partnership with the Bihar government to strengthen football infrastructure and nurture talent in the state. A decision on the proposal is expected after due consideration.
The initiatives are part of Bihar’s broader push to improve sports infrastructure and create better opportunities for athletes at both national and international levels.
