Patna: Bihar continues to reel under biting cold, with dense fog and unusually low daytime temperatures disrupting daily life across the state. Meteorologists say there is little prospect of immediate relief, as cold day conditions are expected to persist into the first days of the new year.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Patna, the state will experience dry weather for the next seven days, but this will be accompanied by widespread fog and cold conditions. Several districts are already recording cold day conditions, marked by subdued daytime temperatures and persistent cloud cover.
The IMD has forecast dense fog in parts of northern and south-western Bihar on Wednesday. On January 1, the first day of the new year, dense fog is likely in many areas of north-central, north-western, south-central and south-western Bihar, with isolated pockets also expected in the north-eastern and south-eastern regions.
On December 31, severe cold day conditions are likely at a few places in northern and south-western districts, while dense fog may prevail in northern, south-central and south-western parts of the state. On January 1, cold day conditions are expected at a few locations in northern Bihar, with dense fog possible in one or two places in most districts.

Between January 2 and January 3, similar conditions are forecast for north-western and eastern parts of the state, accompanied by poor visibility in northern and eastern districts.
Meteorologists have also warned that moderate to dense fog could affect remaining parts of Bihar over the next four to five days, particularly during early morning and late night hours.
